NEWBURGH NEWS.       February 2008.

Dear Resident,

In this first Newsletter of 2008, I am delighted to be able to celebrate with you the end of the threat to the Post Office. Irene heard recently that Newburgh is not to be on the list for closure. Please take time to read the insert to find out what you can do to continue support of the business.

Unfortunately, I also have to highlight that dog faeces has again become a problem – we feature details of how you can help. This is a community problem and we need to act together to tackle it.

Finally, back to some good news. Following repeated and prolonged difficulties with the SPID (speed indicator device), I can now confirm that everything is on track for it to start operating very soon.

Kind regards,

Jacky Citarella.

Chair.

Parish Council Meetings.

Residents are always welcome to come to our Meetings to see what discussions are taking place.

Meetings are held in the School, Back Lane at 7.30pm on these dates: 27th February.

26th March

23rd April.

Agendas and Minutes.

The Agenda for each Meeting is placed in the Notice board near the Post Office. The Minutes are held in the Post Office for your inspection.

Both documents can be inspected on the Newburgh website.

Dog Faeces.

Concern has again been expressed about dog faeces in the village, particularly on Back Lane and the Sports Field. This problem is serious with obvious dangers to children.

Will dog owners please use the dog waste bins located around the village –“poo bags” can be obtained free of charge from the Post Office.

Offending dog owners will be duly reported and prosecution may follow. If residents see an offence being committed they should contact the Dog Control Team on 01695 585254 with details.

Newburgh School Ofsted.

The opening paragraph of the report reads: -

“This is a good school where pupils achieve well and develop into mature well mannered citizens who clearly really enjoy learning and are exceptionally well prepared for the future. The outstanding care, guidance and support the school provides, enable all pupils to be fully included in all activities and make good progress. Parents relate how much their children enjoy school and this is confirmed by their excellent attendance. Pupils themselves say they are very happy coming to school because of the friendly staff, interesting activities and the opportunities to work and play with children from different classes. They also appreciate the recent and ongoing refurbishment.”

Well done, Newburgh School!

Traffic speed.

The deployment of the traffic speed indicator device (SPID), originally expected to be undertaken by the Police, is now likely to be managed by a private contractor. It is hoped that a contract will be concluded shortly.

Meantime, a SPID owned by the Police is occasionally being put up in the village.

Play Area.

After a further lengthy process to establish the ownership of the land situated between the School and the Vicarage, progress is now being made towards the preparation of a lease for the new Play Area.
