NEWBURGH NEWS October 2008.

Dear Resident,

I want to start this Newsletter with two messages of welcome. Firstly to Mrs Jean O’Keefe who has joined our Council as a co-opted member and secondly to our new Vicar, Reverend Graham Milford and his family who recently moved to the village. I am sure we all wish them well in their new positions in the community.

There can hardly be anyone in the village who was not adversely affected in some way by the closure of the A5209 in Parbold. The next phase of this work (re-surfacing of the section from Ash Brow to Course Lane is to take place in spring 2009) In an effort to avoid some of the chaos and disruption of this summer, we are to meet representatives of the County Council to talk through the arrangements – we’ll keep you informed as soon as we know what is proposed.

Finally, a date for your diary. Our annual Carols on The Green event has been arranged for the evening of 11th December. Do come and join us then if you can.

Kind regards,

Jacky Citarella,

Chair, Newburgh Parish Council.

Public Footpaths.

Many of you will be aware that the unofficial part of the Bluebell Wood Footpath has been blocked. We have obtained evidence from the public that this section of footpath has been used for many years. In view of this, the Parish Council has submitted an application under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 for this path to be included on the Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way. We await the results.

School News.

It has been a really exciting start to the new school year with lots going on. We welcomed seventeen new children into reception and they have settled into school routines extremely quickly (there were one or two tears at the beginning but that was just the parents!).

Our new Nursery has opened and we have eleven children on the books, some just coming a few sessions a week and others full time. With our Breakfast Club and After School Care Club, it does now mean we are able to offer a comprehensive package of services. We have started to compile a waiting list for future years for both Nursery and School, so if anyone needs any information about either, they can just contact school.

All the classrooms have now been refurbished and almost everywhere is bright and new providing an excellent atmosphere in which to work. Next is getting the library computerised and fully up and running.

God Bless.

Janice Reynolds, Head.

The Flower Festival.

In July, the Flower Festival held in Church and the Exhibition in School were a great success. We were so fortunate to have four days of summer over the event. It was wonderful to see so many of our village community coming in to see the fantastic flower displays by Parbold Flower Club. The theme, depicting “Creation”, was very well interpreted. Thank you to all who visited our church and school and took part in such a memorable event.

These can range from camping to working for badges and challenges, to trips and cook-outs. Being a Guide lets girls learn to work as a team as well as individually and develop life skills that they may not learn elsewhere, all whilst having fun and learning more about themselves.
